Licensed & Classified Teaching Opportunities

Substitutes play an important and highly sought-after role in the Athena-Weston School District. As a substitute, you get to be an integral team member in supporting our students’ education. The Athena-Weston School District has numerous substitute pathways based on your qualifications. All completed paperwork must be submitted to the AWSD business office via email, fax, US mail, or in person.

Licensed Substitutes:

Licensed substitutes can qualify for appropriate classroom teacher assignments. Please complete the Oregon Statewide Teacher Application and submit

Substitutes who have a valid teaching license anywhere in the United States or abroad can apply for a Substitute Teaching License through the Oregon Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC). This will include paying a non-refundable fee, passing a criminal background clearance, and other TSPC requirements. Following the issue of your Oregon license, please fill out the Oregon Statewide Teacher Application and submit to the business office.

Bachelor’s Degree Substitutes:

If you hold a bachelor’s degree or higher but have not completed a teacher preparation program, you may apply for a Restricted Substitute Teaching License through the Oregon Teachers Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC).

To meet the minimum qualifications for the Restricted Substitute Teaching License, you must:

  • Have a letter of sponsorship from the employing school district (provided by your sponsoring district directly to TSPC after you have applied to TSPC);

  • Be 18 years or older;

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher (regionally accredited or foreign equivalent);

  • Pass the required Protecting Student and Civil Rights in the Educational Environment exam;

  • Pay any necessary fees for TSPC;

  • Pass a criminal background clearance, including fingerprints, if necessary.

If you are interested in obtaining a Restricted Substitute Teaching License, please email Superintendent Ann Vescio to discuss a letter of sponsorship before beginning the application process.

High School Diploma Substitutes:

Non-licensed substitutes can substitute as paraprofessionals, which can be assigned as student and/or classroom assistants. Please fill out the District Classified Application and email it to the business office.
